Case filed against TMC MP Mahua Moitra for making making disparaging remarks against NCW chief
A case has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra for making disparaging statements about National Commission of Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma.
Following the Women’s Commission’s complaint to the Delhi Police on Friday, a FIR was filed in the case.
NCW filed a complaint saying that Ms Mohua Mitra, MP, committed an offence under section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – 2023 by allegedly reposting a tweet (on social media platform X), according to police.

Delhi Police Special Cell registered the case after complaint
The Delhi Police Special Cell claimed that after taking cognizance of the complaint and conducting a preliminary examination of its contents, they opened a case and an inquiry.
The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) team of the Delhi Police Special Cell will now obtain the X handle data from the social media platform where insulting language was sent at Rekha Sharma.
Police will then conduct a more thorough investigation, according to reports.

Moitra took a dig at Rekha Sharma’s arrival at the site of Hathras stampede
Moitra had commented on a video of Rekha Sharma’s arrival at the Hathras stampede site on Thursday.
The footage showed a man walking behind her, carrying an umbrella over her. The video was published on X, and one social media user questioned why Rekha Sharma couldn’t carry her umbrella.
Mahua Moitra responded to the post, writing, “She (Rekha Sharma) is too busy holding up her boss’s pajamas”.
