In response to concerns from Ulemas and Muslim leaders about the presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Delhi, the LG Secretariat has called for urgent action. A two-month special drive will focus on identifying infiltrators, canceling fraudulently obtained documents, removing unauthorized encroachments, and deporting illegal immigrants.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena has asked the police to take stringent action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the National Capital.
The LG Secretariat has instructed the Chief Secretary and the Police Commissioner to initiate  a two-month special drive to identify these immigrants and enforce action as per existing laws in a time-bound manner.
The directive follows a representation by a delegation of Ulemas and Muslim leaders from Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin and Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin to LG VK Saxena. The delegation expressed grave concerns over attacks on Hindu and other minority communities in Bangladesh and called for stringent measures against Bangladeshi infiltrators in Delhi.
The letter from the LG Secretariat detailed the demands of the Muslim leaders, including:
- Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators should not be rented homes or employed by any establishment.
- Children of such infiltrators should not be admitted to government or private schools.
- Illegal encroachments by Bangladeshi immigrants on roads, footpaths, parks, and government lands should be removed.
- Any fraudulently obtained documents like Aadhaar Cards or Voter IDs must be cancelled.
- A special drive should be conducted, similar to past initiatives, to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
The letter emphasized the importance of immediate and stringent action, highlighting the Muslim community’s request for a dedicated campaign to address the issue. It also instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to submit weekly progress reports to the LG Secretariat.
The Ulemas specifically urged that residents be encouraged to report illegal immigrants in their vicinity and that institutions, including mosques or madrasas, refrain from sheltering them. They further recommended that landlords evict any illegal immigrants currently occupying rented properties.
In response to these concerns, the LG has mandated a comprehensive drive to address the issue and ensure the demands are met within the stipulated timeframe.
