A Class 9 student, who was apprehended for reportedly issuing fake bomb threats that caused the evacuation of four schools in the city on Wednesday, informed police that he did it to have a day free from classes.
DCP (Noida) Rambadan Singh stated during a press conference on Thursday that the 14-year-old lived in Delhi and was enrolled in one of the four schools that received the threats.
“The student desired a day free from school and had seen online reports about recent bomb threats causing anxiety and fear among school officials. He spent three hours watching YouTube videos and received online advice on how to use a VPN to conceal his IP address,” the DCP stated. A virtual private network, known as VPN, secures a user’s information and conceals IP addresses.
According to police sources, Times Of India reported that the e-mails were dispatched to Step by Step School (Sector 132), Gyanshree School (Sector 127), The Heritage School (Sector 128), and Mayoor School (Sector 126) at approximately 12.30am on Wednesday.
The matching emails claimed there was a bomb on their campuses and included anti-Hindu remarks and mentions of harming “kaafirs.”
Evacuations were initiated as police, firefighters, canine units, and bomb detection teams were deployed to the campuses. After careful evaluation, emergency response teams announced that the schools were secure.
