Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu reveals plans to allocate 300 acres of land for dedicated drone hub

During the Amaravati Drone Summit 2024, held in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu declared that the state would be known as the “Drone Capital of India.”

In order to establish Andhra Pradesh as a frontrunner in drone technology, Naidu announced intentions to designate 300 acres of land in Orvakal, Kurnool District, for a specialized drone center. This project aims to position Andhra Pradesh as the leading hub for drone manufacturing, innovation, and research.

Naidu outlines plan to train 35,000 drone pilots

Naidu not only proposed creating the drone hub but also unveiled a bold strategy to train 35,000 drone pilots to address the increasing need for trained workers in the field. Naidu highlighted the significant impact drones will have in agriculture, healthcare, traffic management, and disaster relief, citing their role in delivering food and water to people during.

Over the course of the two-day summit, Naidu assured that the state government would unveil a detailed drone policy in 15 days to entice drone makers and support innovators in a business-friendly setting. This policy will turn Andhra Pradesh into a testing area for drone applications, with successful pilot projects expected to spread throughout the state and the nation.

He assured that drones would be used extensively in police work for surveillance and monitoring, especially to keep an eye on criminal activities.

Naidu reflects on his role in driving India’s IT revolution in the 1990s

Looking back at his contribution to India’s IT boom in the 1990s, Naidu explained how his efforts, including the creation of Hyderabad’s HiTech City in collaboration with the private sector, played a key role in making the city a prominent tech center.

He attributed the opening up of India’s telecom sector and subsequent mobile technology boom to his partnership with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Naidu mentioned that previously, they brought global tech giants like Microsoft to India, and now they are bringing drones. “Back then, we brought global tech giants like Microsoft to India, and now, we’re doing the same with drones,” Naidu said.
