CBI probe ordered in Sandeshkhali Incident
There was a lot of uproar regarding the Sandeshkhali incident in West Bengal. Now the Calcutta High Court has ordered to hand over the investigation into the allegations of atrocities against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali to the CBI.
The attack on ED officials in Sandeshkhali is also being investigated by the CBI. TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh and his associates are also accused in the Sandeshkhali case. Shahjahan Sheikh is also accused of attacking the ED team.
In its order on Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI investigation under the supervision of the court into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali. Last Thursday, the High Court had reprimanded the state government regarding the incidents of Sandeshkhali. The court, while hearing the petitions filed against the violence in Sandeshkhali, said that this matter is very shameful.

Court said it is the responsibility of the state government to provide security to every citizen. The court had said that both the district administration and the West Bengal government should take moral responsibility in the Sandeshkhali case.
The High Court said that ‘here 100 percent responsibility lies with the ruling government. If the safety of any citizen is in danger then the government is responsible. If there is even one percent truth in what the victim’s lawyer is saying, then it is extremely shameful.
The Sandeshkhali Case
Sandeshkhali of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal has been in the headlines for the last two to three months. ED officials who came to raid the hideout of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh were attacked. Central agency official’s head exploded. On January 5, the Sandeshkhali incident made headlines across the country.
Local women in Sandeshkhali had alleged that local TMC leaders had forcibly taken over their land. Some women also made serious allegations of rape against TMC leaders. The politics of Bengal had come to a boil on this issue.

Actually, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali case is TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh. Shahjahan Sheikh is also accused of attacking the ED team. Besides, his name is also in the ration scam of Bengal. This is the reason why BJP cornered the TMC government on this issue and accused the government of encouraging criminal elements. BJP also accused the state police of taking biased action.
After immense pressure, Bengal Police arrested the main accused Shahjahan Sheikh on 29 February. A demand was made in the High Court to investigate the matter by CBI. In such a situation, after the order of the High Court, Shahjahan Sheikh was handed over to the CBI.
