In relation to the Delhi Liquor Policy case, a Delhi court has placed Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha in judicial custody until April 9. In addition to remanding her to Tihar Jail for 14 days, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja scheduled a hearing on her request for temporary bail for April 1.
Kavitha Faces Judicial Custody Amid Allegations: ED’s Concerns Raised
In their request for the court to place Kavitha in judicial custody, the ED noted that the arrestee’s high level of influence would make it likely for her to influence witnesses and tamper with the evidence, endangering the ongoing investigation.
Earlier in the day, the ED informed the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi that K Kavitha, the leader of the BRS, did not need to be subjected to any more involuntary questioning. According to news agency PTI, the BRS leader’s attorney had also requested temporary bail based on her son’s exam results.
When K Kavitha’s custody in the excise case came to an end, the ED brought her before the Rouse Avenue court. The 46-year-old was detained by the central investigation agency on March 15.
Before going into court, Kavitha told reporters, “This is not a money laundering case, this is a political laundering case.” It is a made-up and untrue case. We’ll emerge unsullied. This case is unlawful. We’ll battle it out. Jai Telangana.
ED Accusations and Political Connections: Kavitha’s Involvement Unveiled
Kavitha is the daughter of K Chandrashekar Rao, the former chief minister of Telangana. She was named by the ED as a prominent member of the “South Group,” which is suspected of giving the AAP ₹100 crore in kickbacks in exchange for a sizable portion of liquor licenses in the nation’s capital. After a search of her home on March 15, she was taken into custody.

The Delhi Excise policy was formulated and carried out with favoritism, according to the ED, and Kavitha and other prominent AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and the recently arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. A total of sixteen persons, including AAP members Kejriwal, Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Vijay Nair, have been taken into custody thus far.
The SC had denied her bail earlier on March 22. Kavitha was asked to appear before the trial court by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh, and Bela M. Trivedi, who explained that this court was required to follow protocol and could not circumvent it.
