How the Bengaluru Stampede occurred
On Wednesday, a stampede near the cricket stadium resulted in 11 deaths and more than 50 injuries during a special ceremony held by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to celebrate the RCB players following their first IPL trophy win in 18 years.
As per initial details given to the Karnataka government, a temporary slab set over a drain close to the stadium fell due to the weight of individuals on it, sources reported. The unexpected collapse triggered panic and led to a stampede, causing several deaths and injuries.
As per leading sources who talked to India Today TV, the Karnataka government proceeded with the celebration event the day after RCB’s win, even though the Bengaluru Police suggested scheduling it on Sunday for security and logistical considerations.

Sources indicated that the RCB management failed to consult the police prior to tweeting about their victory parade, which became viral, garnering over a million views. Sources indicate that they subsequently sought police approval for a victory parade, which was rejected.
The stampede led the Karnataka government to suspend senior police officials, including Bengaluru City Commissioner B Dayananda, due to the failures in organization that caused the incident. After Dayananda’s suspension, the government designated Seemanth Kumar Singh as the new police chief of Bengaluru.
