A day after the deadly terror attack in New Orleans, the large fire broke out on Chartres Street in city’s French Quarter on Thursday afternoon, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air. Firefighters from the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) swiftly responded, with 18 units and 47 personnel working to extinguish the blaze. A helicopter was also seen circling the area during the operation.
The fire, which engulfed a vacant two-story apartment building, was reported at around 2:15 p.m. It took firefighters approximately an hour to bring the flames under control, according to NOFD Captain Quentin Brown. The building’s roof had already been compromised by the time firefighters arrived, indicating the fire had been burning for some time.
