A 31-year-old Adobe software engineer died after he was allegedly assaulted by his wife’s relatives following a domestic dispute at their Delhi home. Police have arrested four people in connection with the case.

August 22, 2026: A domestic dispute over the care of an infant turned fatal in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar early Saturday when a 31-year-old Adobe software engineer was allegedly assaulted by members of his wife’s family. The man, identified as Vinay Gupta, died after sustaining serious injuries during the alleged attack at his home.
According to Gupta’s family, the confrontation began after he and his wife, Rekha, argued over giving medicine to their infant child. Rekha allegedly left the house following the argument and returned about 10 minutes later with her two brothers, sister-in-law, father, uncle and other relatives.
Gupta’s mother, who lived in the same house, told the family that she had stepped outside briefly to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors. When she returned, she allegedly found her son being assaulted. She tried to intervene and raised an alarm, but the attack continued, the family claimed.

The family alleged that Gupta was strangled and repeatedly punched and kicked in the chest. They also claimed the assault may have been planned, alleging that the CCTV cameras inside the house had been switched off before the relatives arrived.
Footage from the area reportedly showed Rekha wearing a red suit and her sister-in-law in blue, arriving in a car along with her brothers, father and another man.
After the assault, a neighbour reportedly carried the injured Gupta on his shoulder towards a hospital. Members of Rekha’s family were allegedly present nearby at the time. Doctors declared Gupta dead on arrival.
Gupta worked at Adobe’s Noida office and reportedly earned an annual package of around ₹60 lakh. He had married Rekha about three-and-a-half years ago. The couple had four-and-a-half-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

The family lived in the same house, with Gupta and Rekha occupying the third floor and his parents living on the floors below. Gupta’s relatives also alleged that Rekha’s brother had previously threatened him during minor disagreements and that the couple maintained separate kitchens.
Police have arrested four people in connection with the case — Rekha, her two brothers and her sister-in-law. Further investigation is underway.
