Ajit Doval to continue as NSA for a third term
On Thursday, the Narendra Modi-led federal government reappointed former IPS officer Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser (NSA) and former IAS officer Dr PK Mishra as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister (PSM).
According to a government order, both individuals would be appointed for the duration of PM Modi’s term or until additional directives are issued.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajit Doval, IPS (Retired) as National Security Adviser with effect from 10.06.2024,” said the order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

Doval, a 1968 batch IPS officer, was appointed National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister on May 31, 2014.
As NSA, Ajit Doval will lead the National Security Council (NSC), whose primary responsibility is to advise the Prime Minister on national and international security problems.
During his tenure, Doval will be assigned the rank of Cabinet Minister, and the terms and conditions of his appointment will be announced separately.
Doval has been the NSA since the first term of PM Modi when he came to power in 2014. He was reappointed at the office in 2019 when the BJP returned with bigger majority. He has been assigned with the responsibility once again in 2024.

PK Mishra to continue as PM Modi’s Principal Secretary
PK Mishra, IAS (Retired), will remain as the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary. The Cabinet Appointments Committee accepted the nomination of Dr. PK Mishra, lAS (Retired), as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, effective June 10, 2024.
His appointment will last until the Prime Minister’s tenure ends or until additional directives are issued, whichever comes first. During his term in office, he will be assigned the Cabinet Minister rank on the Table of Precedence.
Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor were appointed as Advisors to the Prime Minister, in the Prime Minister’s Office, in the rank and scale of Secretary to Government of India, for a period of two years with effect from 10.06.2024 or until further orders whichever is earlier.
