Reasi bus attack: Police arrest 50 suspects

Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended up to 50 suspects on Thursday as part of their investigation into the recent terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in the Valley’s Reasi region, according to sources.

The detentions came after an extended investigation by police and security services that yielded substantial leads, assisting in the identification and apprehension of those suspected of coordinating the attack, according to a police spokesperson.

“Significant leads have been discovered, which will help identify and apprehend people who may have been engaged in the attack. To guarantee a thorough investigation, search activities have been expanded to include the remote districts of Arnas and Mahore,” the official stated.

Between 1995 and 2005, these areas served as terrorist hotspots, he noted.

What happened in the Reasi terror attack?

Nine people died, including a minor, and 41 others were injured when a 53-seater bus carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra crashed into a steep valley after being shot on by terrorists on Sunday evening (June 9). The bus carried pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

As part of the larger crackdown, continuous search activities are intended to find additional evidence and catch terrorists who may be hiding in these isolated areas.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department has issued sketches of four terrorists engaged in assaults in Doda area and promised a Rs 20 lakh reward for information leading to their capture.

Several Valley districts, including Sunderbani, Nowshera, Domana, Lamberi, and Akhnoor in Rajouri and Jammu districts, have been placed on high alert after intelligence services warned of further terror attacks on security forces.

According to officials, intelligence services have warned of terror groups’ plans to undertake ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attacks on security forces camps and installations, and have urged for maximum alert in the affected areas.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
