Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been appointed as Governor of Haryana, replacing Bandaru Dattatreya while Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, former Union Civil Aviation Minister, has been appointed as Governor of Goa, succeeding P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
President Droupadi Murmu approved the resignation of Brigadier (Retd.) B.D. Mishra and announced the appointment of Kavinder Gupta—former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir—as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh: Haryana’s New Governor
Born in Howrah, West Bengal in 1944, Dr. Ghosh earned a Political Science degree from Vidyasagar College, Kolkata, and became a longtime professor. HE joined BJP in 1991, served as West Bengal BJP president (1999–2002), and oversaw party strategies in Tripura (2003–2005).
Dr. Ghosh is known for his scholarly approach. His background in academia and organizational politics may shape his contributions as a constitutional figure in Haryana.

Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju: Goa’s New Governor
Born into the royal Pusapati family of Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Raju is a senior TDP leader, former MLA and MP. As Union Minister of Civil Aviation from 2014 to 2018, he spearheaded the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, launched multiple airports, and introduced disruptive passenger no-fly lists.
Replacing P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Raju brings vast administrative and aviation experience to Goa’s Raj Bhavan. As constitutional heads, governors play a crucial role in state legislative processes, administrative oversight, and acting as liaisons with the Centre.

Kavinder Gupta: Ladakh’s New Lt Governor
Born on December 2, 1959, in Jammu, Gupta has been active in politics since his teens, joining the RSS at 13 and later rising through the ranks of the BJP, including roles in youth wings and city-level leadership. He served as Mayor of Jammu for a record three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2010.
Elected MLA in 2014, Gupta became Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly in March 2015, before later being appointed Deputy Chief Minister in April 2018 during the BJP–PDP coalition government.
Gupta’s appointment marks a departure from the previous military-backed leadership under Brig. B.D. Mishra, signaling more politically-rooted regional governance.
