Haryana Election Results 2024

Vote counting for the Haryana assembly elections will start at 8 am on Tuesday. Haryana cast its votes for all 90 seats in one phase on October 5.

The BJP and Congress are the primary contenders in the state. The BJP, in control in Haryana for a decade, is aiming for a third consecutive win in the state. The Congress is trying to make a comeback after being in the opposition for two terms.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are also in the fray in the Haryana elections.

What exit polls have predicted?

Haryana Elections 2024

The majority of exit polls released on Saturday indicated that the Congress party is likely to take control from the BJP in Haryana after being in the opposition for a decade.

The Congress party, led by former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is expected to secure 49-55 seats in the 90-member House after a loud campaign. The minimum number of seats needed for a party or coalition to establish power in Haryana is 46.

Political experts predict that due to anti-incumbency, farmers’ anger, internal conflicts, and unemployment problems, the BJP may only secure up to 32 seats based on exit polls.

In the 2019 election, the BJP secured 40 seats, falling six seats short of the 46 needed for a simple majority in the 90-seat House. The saffron party joined forces with the JJP and seven Independent MLAs to establish the government after the elections. Manohar Lal Khattar was re-elected as the chief minister, with Dushyant Chautala from JJP serving as the deputy chief minister for the second term.

Khattar, who was replaced as Haryana CM by Nayab Singh Saini months before the 2023 assembly polls, is now Union Minister, and JJP has since pulled out of the alliance.

Candidates for the post of Chief Minister

The current Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, still represents the BJP as its candidate for Chief Minister. The party’s high command will make the decision on the chief ministerial face after taking input from all elected legislators, as stated by the Congress.

If the exit poll results are accurate, Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the top contender within the Congress for the CM position. Hooda, who was the Leader of the Opposition in the previous Haryana Assembly, served as chief minister from 2005 to 2014 for two terms.

Hooda, aged 77, spearheaded the Congress’s campaign in the Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, resulting in the party securing five out of the 10 Parliamentary seats. “The government will be formed by the Congress party. The chief minister will be decided by the party high command,” Hooda stated.

Sirsa Member of Parliament (MP) and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Kumari Selja is also seen as a contender for the top post.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
