Air Marshal SP Dharkar appointed new Vice Chief of Air Staff; to replace current Air Marshal AP Singh
Ace fighter pilot Air Marshal SP Dharkar has been appointed as the upcoming Vice Chief of Air Staff. He is set to replace current Air Marshal AP Singh, who is appointed as the upcoming Chief of Air Staff.
SP Dharkar will be taking on his new role once the new Chief assumes command.
SP Dharkar has more than 3600 hours of flight time
SP Dharkar, a seasoned fighter pilot, has accumulated more than 3600 hours of flight time. He is an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College in Dehradun, National Defence Academy in Pune, Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and Air War College in the USA.
He was appointed in June 1985 and holds certifications as a Qualified Flying Instructor, Fighter Strike Leader, and Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner, in addition to his role as an Air Force Examiner.

Throughout his impressive career, he has led a frontline fighter squadron and a Fighter Flying Training Establishment.
He has experience teaching Professional Military Education to medium and senior level officers at the Defence Services Staff College and College of Air Warfare in Secunderabad.
Dharkar held position of Assistant Chief of Air Staff at Air Headquarters
He held the position of Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Training) at Air Headquarters and served as Air Defence Commander at Headquarters Eastern Air Command.
He holds the unique position of being the inaugural Director General of Defence Space Agency. He has led Eastern Air Command for the past two years.
