June 25 to be known as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’, says BJP

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Friday that June 25, the day former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi enforced the Emergency in 1975, would now be known as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ (Constitution Murder Day).

Amit Shah stated in a post on X that the day would recognize the huge sacrifices of all those who braved the “inhuman pains of the 1975 Emergency”.

“On June 25, 1975, the then PM Indira Gandhi, in a brazen display of a dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of our democracy by imposing the Emergency on the nation. Lakhs of people were thrown behind bars for no fault of their own, and the voice of the media was silenced. The Government of India has decided to observe the 25th of June every year as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’,” Shah tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also retweeted Amit Shah’s message, claiming that Congress unleashed a dark period in Indian history on June 25, 1975.

“To observe 25th June as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas will serve as a reminder of what happens when the Constitution of India was trampled over,” said the prime minister.

The move comes as the BJP-led NDA launches an onslaught against the Congress on the 49th anniversary of the declaration of the Emergency.

Congress says June 4 to be observed as ‘Modi Mukti Diwas’

The Congress condemned the move, claiming that June 4 will be remembered as “Modi Mukti Diwas”. The Lok Sabha election results were revealed on June 4, with the BJP receiving a smaller mandate but forming a government for a third term with the aid of its partners.

In response to Amit Shah, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that India was experiencing a “undeclared emergency” under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
