Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu visits airport
Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu visited the airport and examined Terminal 1. He stated that the airport will temporarily relocate operations to Terminals 2 and 3.
The newly-elected minister described the occurrence as “very serious” and announced that a thorough investigation of the airport’s structure will be conducted. The technical reasons and other parts of the incident would be revealed during the probe, he stated.
He also offered a compensation of ₹ 20 lakh for the victim’s family and ₹ 3 lakh for each injured person.
IndiGo and SpiceJet operate the only domestic flights from T1. The airport has three terminals (T1, T2, and T3) and handles around 1,400 flights per day.
According to officials, the roof sheet and support beams fell, causing damage to four automobiles parked in the terminal’s pick-up and drop-off area at Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports. The incident was reported to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) about 5:30 a.m.
Indigo, Spicejet Cancel Flights at Delhi airport
IndiGo stated that structural damage to Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 had an impact on its airline operations. According to the low-cost carrier, the event has resulted in flight cancellations in Delhi because “passengers are unable to enter the terminal.”
“Passengers already inside the terminal will be able to board their planned flights, but those with flights later in the day will be offered alternatives,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
