Mohan Singh Bisht, a senior Delhi BJP leader and recently elected MLA from Mustafabad, announced on Sunday that he will rename his constituency “Shiv Puri” or “Shiv Vihar” shortly after taking the oath of office.
Bisht won decisively in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, defeating AAP candidate Adeel Ahmad by more than 17,500 votes in Mustafabad, a Muslim-majority district.
“I will change the area’s name from Mustafabad to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar. I’ve expressed it before. I don’t understand why political parties insist on keeping the name Mustafabad. Why can’t a largely Hindu area be named Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar? People are troubled by the name ‘Mustafa’, which should be replaced. I’ll make sure it happens,” Bisht told ANI.
Notably, Mustafabad constituency, located in North-East Delhi, was one of the most severely impacted localities during the 2020 communal riots in the national capital.

Mohan Singh Bisht, a four-time BJP MLA from the Karawal Nagar constituency in North-East Delhi, has been replaced by Kapil Mishra in the 2025 Delhi elections. The party instead fielded Bisht for the Mustafabad seat.
Bisht, who was first upset by the decision, stated that he would not run for office in any other constituency and would instead file his nomination from Karawal Nagar.
