West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday that the Trinamool Congress-led state government would provide shelter to people who have suffered at the hands of Bangladesh protests “if they come knocking on our doors”.

“I can’t say anything about Bangladesh since it’s another country. The Indian government will talk about it. However, if helpless individuals (from Bangladesh) knock on Bengal’s door, we will provide sanctuary. There is a UN resolution. Neighbours will respect refugees,” Mamata Banerjee declared.

The Trinamool Congress supremo was addressing a mega ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally of the Trinamool Congress amid heavy rain in Kolkata.

“I assure all cooperation to Bengal residents whose relatives are stuck in violence-hit Bangladesh,” she said additionally.

Nationwide curfew imposed in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi authorities have enforced a harsh curfew across the country, with military soldiers patrolling portions of the capital Dhaka. This occurred after unrest erupted in regions of the country over the allocation of government employment, killing more than 40 people and injuring hundreds.

Mamata Banerjee also praised Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was present at the occasion, for his party’s performance in Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Sabha elections.

“The government at the Centre won’t last long. This is not a stable government and will collapse soon,” she said.

“The ‘Khel’ (game) you played in UP should have forced the BJP government (in UP) to resign, but the shameless government is continuing in power by misusing agencies and other means,” the leader of the Trinamool Congress explained.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
