CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether he will also apologise for the alleged police lathi-charge on students, days after forgiving protesters who abused him during the Jantar Mantar agitation.

New Delhi, August 1, 2026: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder and president Abhijeet Dipke has challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise for the alleged police crackdown on student protesters, asking whether the Prime Minister would also seek forgiveness for what he described as the “brutal lathi-charge” on demonstrators during last month’s protests in Delhi.
In a 36-second video posted on X on Saturday, Dipke posed a direct question to the Prime Minister.
“Will PM Modi seek forgiveness for the brutal lathi-charge on students?” he asked.
The video quickly gained traction on social media, drawing thousands of views, likes and reposts within hours and reigniting debate over the police action during the anti-paper leak protests.
The remarks come days after Prime Minister Modi released a video message saying he had forgiven the young protesters who allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother during the demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. Describing them as “misguided” and “mischievous” children, the Prime Minister urged society to counsel young people rather than punish them, saying abuse could never be the solution to disagreements.
Dipke, however, argued that if forgiveness was being extended to students, the government should also acknowledge allegations of excessive force used against them.
The CJP has consistently alleged that Delhi Police used disproportionate force against demonstrators during the July protests, including lathi-charges, tear gas and, according to the organisation, pellet guns. The police have denied several of the allegations and have maintained that only the minimum force necessary was used to restore law and order.
The student-led movement, spearheaded by the CJP, began as a campaign against examination paper leaks but later expanded into a broader protest against unemployment, governance issues and alleged police excesses. The demonstrations culminated in the resignation of the Union Education Minister following sustained public pressure over the paper leak controversy.

Dipke has repeatedly demanded that all criminal cases registered against student protesters be withdrawn and that an independent inquiry be conducted into the police action. He has also said the organisation will pursue legal action against officials found responsible for alleged excesses.
His latest video has triggered sharp reactions online. Supporters described it as a demand for accountability and equal standards, while critics accused the CJP leader of attempting to politicise the issue and ignoring alleged misconduct by some protesters.
With tensions over the student protests yet to fully subside, Dipke’s remarks have added a fresh dimension to the ongoing political debate over accountability, forgiveness and the handling of one of the country’s largest youth-led agitations in recent years.
