At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, young Priyansh Arya smashed a sensational century as he became the 14th batter for Punjab Kings to make a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-handed batsman accomplished the milestone in Match No.22 of IPL 2025 versus the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday, April 8.
The others are KL Rahul (2), Hashim Amla (2), Virender Sehwag, Paul Valthaty, Shaun Marsh, Wriddhiman Saha, Mahela Jayawardene, Jonny Bairstow, Mayank Agarwal, Adam Gilchrist, Chris Gayle, Prabhsimran Singh, and David Miller. He also became the third PBKS player after Valthaty and Sehwag to score an IPL century against the Super Kings.
Arya matched the joint fourth-fastest fifty in IPL history, reaching it off 39 balls, alongside Travis Head, who scored a 39-ball century against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) last year at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Chris Gayle holds the record for 30 balls, followed by Yusuf Pathan (37 balls versus Mumbai Indians in 2010) and David Miller (38 balls against RCB in 2013).

Priyansh made headlines last year in the Delhi Premier League when he hit six sixes in one over while representing the Ayush Badoni-captained South Delhi Superstarz against North Delhi Strikers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on August 31, 2024.
In the 12th over of their innings, Arya displayed his batting excellence by aggressively targeting left-arm spinner Manan Bharadwaj. The left-hander struck six straight sixes, illuminating the skies over Delhi with his extraordinary batting display.
Following Priyansh’s century against CSK, PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin remarked on how the batter left a strong impression on the team management during a practice match.
“Sure, I can share details about the initial practice match we had. The coaches strolled around the oval, and after around eight balls, we exchanged glances, nodded in agreement, and said, ‘He must play in the first game.’ “I believe he struck around four or five sixes in his initial deliveries, and we just said, ‘Wow, this is different,'” Haddin stated.
In the major auction held in Jeddah last year, Priyansh sparked a bidding competition. Starting from a base price of Rs 30 lakh, his stocks increased to Rs 3 crore. Ultimately, PBKS signed him for Rs 3.80 crore. In four games during IPL 2025, Arya accumulated 158 runs with an average of 39.50 and a strike rate of 210.66.
