Musical maestro AR Rahman records 30-minute performance video to support Kamala Harris
Legendary music composer AR Rahman recorded a 30-minute performance video to show support for US Vice President Kamala Harris. The performance is anticipated to greatly enhance her presidential campaign prior to the November 5 US elections.
Rahman, aged 57, becomes the first prominent South Asian artist to publicly support Kamala Harris in her bid for the US presidency.
“With this performance, AR Rahman has added his voice to a chorus of leaders and artists who are standing up for progress and representation in America,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chairman of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Victory Fund.

He stressed that this goes beyond being simply a musical event. “It’s a call to action for our communities to engage and vote for the future we want to see,” Narasimhan said.
AAPI Victory Fund announces the performance as a significant endorsement
The AAPI Victory Fund, which supports Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, announced the performance as a significant endorsement.
The performance will be broadcast on AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel on October 13 at 8 pm ET (October 14, 5:30 am IST). It will also air on major South Asian networks like AVS and TV Asia.
A teaser video with Rahman and MR Rangaswami, founder of Indiaspora, has been released on YouTube, offering a preview of the upcoming performance.
The 30-minute show will feature some of Rahman’s most popular songs, intertwined with messages about Kamala Harris’s candidacy and her dedication to the AAPI community, news agency PTI reported while citing a press release.

Rahman, globally recognized for his work in Indian and international cinema, has not yet shared the event on his personal social media accounts. He is best known for his award-winning soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire.
This marks another well-known artist and celebrity endorsement for Kamala Harris, who has received backing from prominent figures in her campaign.
Musicians such as Beyonce, who played a major role in supporting Harris’ campaign and gave permission to use her popular song “Freedom” as a theme, as well as singers like Carole King and Taylor Swift, have all shown their support for the vice president in Hollywood.
