Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation where they addressed various international matters, such as the India-Pakistan conflict, as stated by Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov in a briefing.
“They also discussed the Middle East and the military conflict between India and Pakistan, which was halted with the direct involvement of President Trump,” Ushakov stated, according to Russian news agency TASS. Nonetheless, Yury Ushakov did not disclose the specific details during the briefing.
Tensions escalated post Pahalgam attack
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated significantly following the Pahalgam terrorist attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. Pahalgam is a tourism spot located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. India held Pakistan-based militants responsible for the assault.
In retaliation, on May 7, India commenced Operation Sindoor, aimed at precise strikes on sites across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where terrorist camps are located. Pakistan responded with counterattacks. The two nations declared a total ceasefire on May 10.

In light of the deteriorating relations between the two nuclear-armed countries, the conversation between Putin and Trump also addressed this conflict, as well as other significant international issues.
Trump shared details on social media
Following the call, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to provide additional information regarding the discussion. He mentioned that the two leaders discussed the Ukraine conflict, Iran’s nuclear initiative, and various international issues.
