Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni has achieved almost everything throughout his glorious cricketing career. Be it winning the 50-over Cricket World Cup in 2011 or the T20 WC 2007. Along with this, he has also led his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings to 5 titles.
Dhoni, who has had arguably the most glittering career in the history of Indian cricket already retired from International Cricket in the year 2020 but has continued to play in the Indian Premier League since.
Dhoni returned to the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) fueled by immense backing from fans, many of whom would conserve their data packs solely to see their cherished ‘Thala’ step up to bat.
However, the Dhoni-fan relationship has suffered a bit in IPL 2025, as India’s finest finisher has been unable to reverse time, missing out on leading his team to victory in two straight matches.
In the face of critiques from cricket analysts regarding his strategy, speculation about Dhoni’s retirement emerged prominently when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.

With Dhoni’s parents present at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, fans took to social media to speculate about his possible retirement.
Amid all retirement talks, MS Dhoni has surprised everyone by revealing in a podcast that he will definitely not retire during the current season of the IPL. “No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time..,” Dhoni said.
“It is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that,” he added.
Previously, reporters asked CSK head coach Stephen Fleming about Dhoni’s retirement following the CSK vs DC match, to which Fleming replied that he no longer engages in this discussion with Dhoni.
