T20 World Cup winning Indian team arrives home to massive reception; to meet PM Modi shortly

World Cup winning Indian Cricket team returns to New Delhi on a special chartered plane

The Indian cricket team arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning aboard a special Air India chartered plane from Barbados. After a three-day wait on the Caribbean island following their T20 World Cup victory, the cricketers returned home with the trophy. The BCCI released a footage of the players getting the trophy off the chartered plane.

A large throng of fans greeted the team at the airport. Captain Rohit Sharma left the airport with the trophy in his hand. Virat Kohli was greeted enthusiastically, as he waved to the supporters to express his gratitude for their support.

Notably, the Men in Blue were detained in Barbados for four days after capturing the prized trophy, since the airport was closed due to Hurricane Beryl. Once the weather improved, a special Air India chartered flight was dispatched to Barbados to return the World Champions home.

Team India landed home after 18-hour jouney

After a roughly 18-hour travel, the squad has finally arrived in India, where supporters have been queuing since late at night to meet their favorite heroes. Special arrangements have been made to welcome the team to both the airport and the team accommodation.

World Cup Winning Indian team to meet PM Modi

A special cake portraying the World Cup Trophy has also been prepared for the squad, which will be sliced upon their arrival at the hotel. Welcome beverages in the national tricolour are also prepared for the entire team. Following a special meeting with the Prime Minister, the squad will fly to Mumbai for a spectacular road performance for fans, beginning from Nariman Point and ending at the Wankhede Stadium, where the entire team will be honored.

Team India won the T20 WC 2024 on June 29

Team India overcame South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday. Rohit Sharma became India’s second captain to win the T20 World Cup, succeeding MS Dhoni. It also marked the end of an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy in men’s cricket.

Following the victory, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is. It was also the end of coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure.
