In a significant declaration made during his first visit to New Delhi as Sri Lankan President, Anura Kumara Disanayaka assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday that the island nation will not allow its territory to be utilized in any way harmful to India’s security.

“Today, several bilateral agreements were exchanged, and I also extend an invitation to the esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Sri Lanka.” I have also assured the Prime Minister of India that we will not permit our territory to be utilized in any way that harms India’s interests. India’s collaboration will thrive, and I wish to assure you of our ongoing support for India.” Disanayaka said in a joint press conference with PM Modi in New Delhi.

Sri Lanka’s pledge to India regarding its dedication to preserving robust bilateral relations arises during China’s increasing sway in the Indian Ocean area, as Beijing persists in amplifying its “Mission Indian Ocean” initiative, which poses strategic worries for New Delhi.

China’s growing presence in Sri Lanka is underscored by its acquisition of the Hambantota Port due to Colombo’s failure to settle Chinese debts. The port has since turned into a docking location for Chinese naval and reconnaissance vessels, heightening strategic concerns for New Delhi because of its closeness to the southern coast.

This isn’t the first occasion that Disanayaka has vowed to safeguard Sri Lankan territory from actions against India. In October, shortly after being sworn in as President, Disanayaka informed External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Colombo that “Sri Lankan territory will never be permitted to be utilized against India’s security interests.”

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Anura Kumara Disanayaka had a lengthy discussion in New Delhi, concentrating on enhancing India-Sri Lanka collaboration across various sectors, including defence, trade, and investment.

The President of Sri Lanka is set to participate in a business event in Delhi aimed at enhancing investment and trade connections between India and Sri Lanka. He is also planned to travel to Bodh Gaya.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
