Rs 2000 fine in Delhi for wasting water amid intense heatwave
On Wednesday, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) declared that anyone found wasting water during an extreme heatwave would face a challan of Rs 2,000. This decision was made with the water problem in the national capital in mind.
The drive prohibits the overflow of water tanks, washing of cars and other vehicles, and the use of household water supply for construction and commercial reasons.
The board will send 200 teams across the national capital to crackdown upon violators who would be found wasting water. The AAP government has also ordered the disconnection of any unlawful water connections on building projects or commercial establishments.

Minister Atishi issues directions to Delhi Jal Board
Delhi minister Atishi, who oversees the supply portfolio, has directed Delhi Jal Board CEO A Anbarasu to build 200 teams to monitor and decrease instances of water waste.
These teams will visit residential areas to see if drinking water is being squandered. Activities such as washing cars with piped water, overflowing water tanks, using home water supplies for commercial purposes, and drinking water on construction sites will be considered waste. Such activities will result in a ₹2,000 fine.

This comes only a day after Atishi accused the Haryana government of failing to provide Delhi with its share of water this month. “On May 1, the water level in Wazirabad was 674.5; it has now dropped to 669.8.” “This has resulted in a water crisis in several areas,” she explained. Wazirabad features one of Delhi’s six water treatment plants.
In an appeal to Delhi citizens, the minister stated, “Some regions are not receiving water supply, thus we will have to rationalize. The areas that previously received water twice a day will now receive it once a day. Please collaborate throughout this challenging moment.”Please use water responsibly. “Don’t waste it at all,” she said.

BJP blames AAP for the water crisis
The opposition BJP has blamed the AAP government for the current water crisis. “Delhi is currently facing a severe heatwave, resulting in a water problem. It was clear since April that Delhi will experience extended high temperatures. I’m curious why the Delhi government didn’t follow a ‘Summer Action Plan’ and failed to prepare for this disaster,” Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva remarked.
