The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) may have made history by clinching their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025, but fans hoping for a grand street celebration in the city were left disappointed. The much-anticipated open bus victory parade in Bengaluru was cancelled due to traffic and logistical challenges.
Historic Victory After 18-Year Wait
RCB secured their first-ever IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The victory ended the franchise’s 18-year-long hunt for the elusive trophy, sparking celebrations across the country and especially in their home city of Bengaluru.
Parade Plan Scrapped Due to Traffic Concerns
The team had initially planned an open bus parade through Bengaluru on June 4, 2025. However, the city’s infamous traffic congestion and crowd management issues led the Bengaluru Police to deny permission for the parade. Authorities expressed concern over public safety and the potential disruption it could cause in the city’s central areas.
Police Advisory Issued
To avoid further chaos, the Bengaluru Police issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid the Central Business District (CBD) and instead use public transportation. The advisory also addressed the cancellation of the event, citing the need to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure public safety.
Alternative Celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium
In place of the street parade, RCB held a felicitation event at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Fans who had passes and tickets were invited to celebrate with the team in a controlled environment. The event featured appearances by key players including Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, and was filled with music, performances, and fanfare.
Fans Disappointed, But Spirit Remains High
Many fans took to social media to express their disappointment, saying they had waited 18 years for a moment like this and deserved a public celebration. However, most understood the challenges posed by the city’s infrastructure and appreciated the alternate arrangements made by the franchise.
While the cancellation of the open bus parade came as a bummer for RCB fans, the franchise’s first IPL win remains a landmark moment in Indian cricket. The indoor celebration at Chinnaswamy still gave fans a chance to rejoice with their heroes, marking the end of a long wait and the beginning of a new era for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
