A senior official and three passengers were killed when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable opened fire on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express on Monday.
According to officials, Constable Chetan Kumar shot and killed his escort duty in-charge ASI Tika Ram Meena in the running train. He then went to another coach and shot dead three passengers.
After making an attempt to leave the area, the suspect was apprehended by Government Railway Police (GRP) officers.
When the incident happened, the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express was close to Palghar railway station at roughly 2:50 AM. Chetan Kumar was in charge of escorting the train, along with two other constables and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tikaram. In order to do their task, the gang was travelling towards Mumbai Central.
For security purposes, senior officers and a group of constables are typically assigned to escort express trains, according to RPF sources. Chetan Kumar was a member of an escort crew that rode a train to Surat railway station before taking a break and returning to their responsibilities.
Originally from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, Chetan Kumar had previously been posted in Gujarat. He was assigned to Mumbai recently.
