A crowd set fire to a restaurant and vandalised nearby stores in Gurugram’s Badshahpur on Tuesday, just one day after fights broke out between two groups during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession in Haryana’s Nuh district. The mob screamed “Jai Shri Ram” in front of a mosque in the region while ransacking stores owned by one community.
The mob, which numbered between 50 and 60 persons, also pushed over all the two-wheelers that were parked nearby.
After the violence, the Badshahpur market was shut down.
Five people, including an imam and two home guards, were killed in the violence that erupted on Monday. The violence spread from Nuh to Gurugram within hours.
