Denmark Open 2024: PV Sindhu loses to Indonesia’s Mariska Tunjung in the quarter-finals
PV Sindhu’s Denmark Open journey, a top-tier Super 750 event, came to an end in the quarter-finals following a defeat to Indonesian player Greogria Mariska Tunjung, the bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, on Friday, October 18.
Sindhu made a comeback after dropping the first game, but was defeated in the quarterfinal match 13-21, 21-16, 9-21 in 57 minutes in Odense.
Sindhu displayed indications of regaining her form as she fought back to defeat fourth-seeded Han Yue of China in the Round of 16 match. Sindhu put in great effort to make a comeback in the final game, but she was easily surpassed by Tunjung in the end on Friday.

Sindhu suffered the consequences of not starting quickly against Tunjung. The Indonesian was leading 6-5 in the first game, but Sindhu lost five consecutive points and could not recover after that.
Sindhu turned it around in the second game, showing more urgency and excellent movement on the court. Tunjung led 9-8, but Sindhu steadily pulled ahead and won the game 21-16. However, the gas ran out for Sindhu in the decider as Tunjung comfortably raced past the finish line in a lopsided game.
Sindhu had a 12-1 head-to-head record against the Indonesian before Friday’s contest and she let go off an opportunity to extend her dominance.
