Pakistan blocks X

Micro blogging site X (formerly Twitter) owned by Elon Musk has been blocked in Pakistan. The reason given for blocking X is national security. However, Pakistan’s Sindh High Court has directed the government to cancel the ban on X. According to Geo News report, the court has asked the Pakistan government to lift its ban within a week.

Since mid-February, users in Pakistan have been reporting issues with X, formerly known as Twitter, although the government has not released any formal statements.

Pakistan’s interior ministry had earlier informed the court that it had to ban X, formerly known as Twitter, because the microblogging platform ‘failed to comply with the lawful instructions of the government’. The Pakistan government banned X, saying it was posing a threat to national security.

The closure was brought up by the interior ministry in a formal court filing on Wednesday.

“It is very pertinent to mention here that the failure of Twitter/X to adhere to the lawful directives of the government of Pakistan and address concerns regarding the misuse of its platform necessitated the imposition of a ban,” the report seen by Reuters said.

According to the ministry, the social media platform showed resistance to working with Pakistani authorities to resolve “critical” concerns.

“The decision to impose a ban on Twitter/X in Pakistan was made in the interest of upholding national security, maintaining public order, and preserving the integrity of our nation” , according to the article.

The Sindh High Court severely criticized the government’s decision to suspend X and ordered that the platform be restored in a week.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
