The Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians players will don black armbands in their IPL match on Wednesday, which will not include cheerleaders or fireworks, to honor the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. The teams will hold a minute’s silence to honor those who lost their lives in the incident that has received global condemnation.
“The players of two teams will wear black armbands and observe a minute’s silence in memory of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam,” a BCCI source told PTI.
“As a mark of respect there would be no cheerleaders on the sidelines of MI vs SRH game. No crackers will be burst,” he added.
On Tuesday, terrorists shot at civilians in a well-known tourist area in south Kashmir, resulting in at least 26 fatalities and numerous injuries.
The attack was claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), which is affiliated with the outlawed Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The assault has received significant denunciation from around the globe.
The Indian cricket team halted bilateral matches with Pakistan following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and recently declined to visit the country for the Champions Trophy, leading the ICC to arrange for a neutral venue in Dubai.
