In 1955, at the height of Goa’s struggle for liberation, Libia Lobo Sardesai co-established the underground radio station ‘Voz da Liberdade’ (Voice of Freedom) in a forested area. This clandestine station became a powerful tool for spreading nationalist messages and inspiring resistance against Portuguese colonial rule. Through her impassioned broadcasts, Sardesai galvanized Goans to rally behind the movement for self-rule, despite the risk of severe repercussions.
A Life Dedicated to Journalism and Literature
Beyond her contributions to the freedom struggle, Sardesai has been a prominent literary figure, using her writing to preserve and promote Goan heritage. Her works reflect her deep love for Goa’s history, culture, and traditions. Her journalism has consistently championed social justice, women’s rights, and the preservation of Goa’s unique identity in a rapidly modernizing world.
