March 20: The Union Territory administration in Ladakh has launched a major cleanliness and urban improvement drive in Leh city aimed at turning it into one of the country’s cleanest and most tourist-friendly urban centres.

The initiative, launched on the directions of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, is being carried out in mission mode by various government agencies. The campaign focuses on removing accumulated dust, as well as construction and demolition waste, from roadsides and key public areas across the city.

In its initial phase, the drive is covering prominent locations such as Lok Niwas, the Secretariat, Leh Main Market, Jivetsal and adjoining areas.

Alongside the sanitation campaign, authorities have also begun preparatory work for a large-scale plantation programme. Pits are being dug along key stretches to improve green cover and enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal as part of a broader plan for environmental sustainability and urban beautification.

The push follows Saxena’s visit to Leh Market and Old Leh Town on March 15, when he directed officials to undertake a sustained effort to improve sanitation, infrastructure and overall urban management.

The Lieutenant Governor, who is personally monitoring the progress of the works, has expressed satisfaction over the efforts of the agencies involved. He said coordinated action and sustained commitment would help create a cleaner, better organised and more visitor-friendly environment in Leh.

Reiterating his vision for Ladakh, Saxena said the combined efforts of government agencies and public participation would be key to positioning the region among the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations.

The UT administration has appealed to residents, local stakeholders and visitors to support the initiative and help ensure its long-term success.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
