NEET 2024 Result Row: SC refuses to pause counselling
On Friday, the Supreme Court of India resumed to hear petitions alleging anomalies in the NEET 2024 Result and Exam. After hearing the latest arguments, the Supreme Court reaffirmed its stance of refusing to stop or pause the NEET counselling procedure.
During its hearing on June 14, the Supreme Court scheduled a July 8 hearing for the petition demanding a CBI investigation into NEET irregularities. Furthermore, the Supreme Court warned counsel not to use “emotional arguments” while attributing the Kota student deaths to the NEET Exam.
The matter was heard by a vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. During Friday’s session, the Supreme Court requested response from the Centre and the National Testing Agency regarding the irregularities in the exam.

Top court urges petitioners not to make emotional arguments
While seeking a CBI investigation into the discrepancies in the NEET Exam, the Supreme Court asked petitioners not to make emotional arguments. During the hearing, one of the petitioners said that students at Kota coaching institutes were committing suicide, to which the court responded that the suicides were unrelated to the NEET UG results.
The bench has issued notices about the CBI plea and has scheduled the hearing for July 8, along with all other petitions related to the NEET UG Result 2024 controversy.
While scheduling the case for July 8, the court reiterated that it would not pause the counselling procedure, which is set to begin on July 6.
NTA withdraws three petitions linked to grant of grace marks to 1,563 students
The NTA also withdrew three appeals pertaining to the granting of grace marks to 1,563 students. However, on Thursday, the NTA announced that it would annul the results of 1563 students who obtained grace marks in their NEET exams.

These students will be offered the choice of retaking the exam on June 23 or accepting their June 4 results as final marks; however, their grace scores will be erased.
The National Testing Agency counted the NEET exam on May 5 to around 24 lakh candidates. The results were announced on June 4 and sparked widespread outrage and protests as it was revealed that 67 pupils had topped the exam.
NEET is used to admit students to undergraduate medical programs such as MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and others at government and state colleges throughout India.
