Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three new Vande Bharat Express trains from Bengaluru’s KSR Railway Station on August 10, 2025. This event marks another significant step in India’s rail modernization effort. The new routes include Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and the Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune service, now India’s longest Mini Vande Bharat route at 882 km.
The Bengaluru to Belagavi train was flagged off in person, while the other two were inaugurated virtually. These new trains are expected to cut travel times, improve passenger comfort, and enhance connectivity between regions.
India now has a total of 150 Vande Bharat trains, with 11 operating in Karnataka. Maharashtra, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir will also see improvements in their high-speed rail systems.

PM also Inaugurated Metro’s Yellow Line
PM Modi inaugurated Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line, showing the government’s commitment to upgrading both inter-city and urban transport.
The Yellow Line connects 16 stations and serves key residential, commercial, and industrial areas. It was built under Phase 2 of the metro project at a cost of about Rs 7,160 crore.
With this new line, Bengaluru’s metro system has expanded to over 96 km, benefiting thousands of passengers daily. The Prime Minister also rode the metro from RV Road to Electronic City, a major IT hub in the city.

Modi laid foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro, a transformative project worth Rs 15,610 crore. This phase will include over 44 km of elevated corridor with 31 new stations, aimed at improving connectivity across Bengaluru’s residential, industrial, educational, and commercial areas.
Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra remarked that the opening of the new Yellow Line metro is a “dream realized” for the community. Vijayendra noted that more than eight hundred thousand people in the southern districts of Bengaluru will benefit from the new metro line.
