Rafael Nadal shares his thoughts on upcoming retirement; says he is content with career achievements
Legendary Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal recently discussed his looming retirement and his mentality towards the competition for the most Grand Slam titles, a record currently owned by his long-time rival Novak Djokovic.
Nadal, who previously stated that the Davis Cup will be his last professional appearance, shared with as.com that he is content with his choice to retire, even though he would have liked to end his career with more Grand Slam titles than Djokovic’s 24.
Nadal, with 22 Grand Slam titles under his belt, mentioned that although overtaking Djokovic was a previous aim, he is content with his career achievements.

Having struggled with injuries for years, Nadal faced a significant hip flexor injury at the 2023 Australian Open, where he was the reigning champion, prompting him to reevaluate his priorities.
“You get to the end of your career and, honestly, I’m not even the slightest bit more satisfied than Federer for having 22 (Grand Slam titles) and he 20. And I don’t think I’d be any more satisfied or happy if I were 25, one more than (Djokovic’s) 24. I say this from the heart,” Nadal said.

“Of course, I’d like to be 25…”
“Of course, I’d like to be 25, without a doubt, because that’s what sport is about, trying to be the best. However, when it’s over, you value what it’s been all together, not whether it’s been a little bit more. I think you value that in the end you’ve managed to give your best, live, make one of your childhood hobbies a very important part of your life,” Nadal added.
As Nadal gets ready for his last tournament, his reputation as a tennis legend, lasting more than 23 years, remains unmatched even though he doesn’t have the most Grand Slam titles.
