Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Shiv Sena announces its candidates for 20 seats; Aaditya to face Deora

The Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde has nominated Milind Deora to contest against Aaditya Thackeray, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, in the upcoming Assembly election in Mumbai’s Worli constituency.

This year, Deora, a Rajya Sabha member, left the Congress party to join Shiv Sena under Eknath Shinde’s leadership.

Aaditya currently serving as Worli MLA

It is worth mentioning that Aaditya Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray’s son and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, is currently serving as the MLA of Worli after winning the seat in 2019. Deora was assigned responsibility for the Worli constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Sources told India Today TV that Shiv Sena, under the leadership of Shinde, thinks that Deora has the potential to have influence in Worli and meet the needs of middle-class Maharashtrians, fishermen, and the wealthy residents of the constituency.

The Shiv Sena revealed the names of its candidates for 20 seats on Sunday. In addition to Deora, Sanjay Nirupam is the candidate for the Dindoshi seat.

BJP MP Narayan Rane’s son Nilesh Rane has been fielded from the Kudal constituency.

Shiv Sena nominated ex-BJP member Murji Patel for the Andheri East constituency in Mumbai. The Andheri East seat in Mumbai saw the nomination of former BJP leader Murji Patel by the party.

Meanwhile, the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, has fielded Sandeep Deshpande from Worli and was hoping to get support from the Shiv Sena, sources said. However, Shinde wanted its own party’s candidate against Aaditya Thackeray.

Elections for 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
