Kapil defeated Brazilian de Oliveira in just 33 seconds
Indian judoka Kapil Parmar achieved a groundbreaking milestone on Thursday by securing India’s inaugural Paralympic medal in judo at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. He won a bronze in the men’s -60kg J1 division by defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira in only 33 seconds with an impressive Ippon.
Kapil’s success contributed to India’s total of 25 medals, including 5 gold, 9 silver, and 11 bronze.

Kapil had lost to Iran’s S. Banitaba Khorram in semis
During the semi-finals of para judo, Parmar, who is 24 years old, was defeated by Iran’s S. Banitaba Khorram Abadi with a score of 0-10 in the J1 category, meant for athletes with little to no visual acuity. Participants in this division display red circles to indicate their requirement for supervised support prior to, during, and following the event.

Who is Kapil Parmar?
Parmar, who won silver in the same division at the 2022 Asian Games, previously defeated Marco Dennis Blanco from Venezuela with a 10-0 win in the quarterfinals. Nevertheless, he was given a yellow card in both games earlier.

Kapil, the smallest in a family of four brothers and one sister, hails from Shivor, a village located in Madhya Pradesh. His father is employed as a taxi driver, whereas his sister manages a primary school.
During his childhood, Kapil experienced a serious electric shock when he touched a water pump while playing in the fields, causing him to fall into a coma.
