New Delhi:

Indian cricket team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is back home in New Delhi to attend to his ailing mother, who suffered a heart attack a couple of days back. The Indian head coach returned home to see his mother, who is convalescing at Gangaram Hospital in the capital.

A spokesman for the Indian team has said Gambhir left for India ‘day before yesterday on a family emergency’. The condition of Gambhir’s mother is still not known clearly, and at the time of compiling this report, she was believed to be in the ICU. She is in her mid-sixties.

Sources close to Gambhir, however, have revealed to the media that the doctors are encouraged by her condition and are giving hope of a potential early recovery, which means Gambhir could be expected to link up with the Indian team before the first Test in Leeds, starting June 20.

Sources have further revealed that there may be a chance that he might consider leaving for England early next week, but at this stage, any date of his departure for England is difficult to confirm given the sensitivity of the situation.

It is not clear who will be in charge of the team in the absence of Gambhir. Sitanshu Kotak (batting coach), Morne Morkel (bowling coach), T Dilip (fielding coach) and Ryan ten Doeschate (assistant coach) are the other members of the coaching staff.

The Indian team is currently engaged in a four-day intra-squad match featuring players from the senior national side and India A team. The game, being held behind closed doors at Beckenham, will run through until June 16 after which the Test players will leave for Headingley for the first Test.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
