Joe Rogan has expressed deep concern over the mysterious drone sightings reported in New Jersey and parts of New York, describing the situation as “genuinely concerning.” Speaking on December 15, the popular podcast host commented on a viral video suggesting the drones might be detecting hazardous materials.
The video features John Ferguson, CEO of a Kansas-based remote aircraft system company, theorizing that the drones are likely “sniffing” for gas leaks, radioactive materials, or other ground-based anomalies. “The only reason to fly an unmanned aircraft at night is if you’re searching for something,” Ferguson explained. While dismissing any nefarious intent behind the drones, he added, “My belief is they’re trying to smell something—gas leaks, radioactive material, whatever.” Ferguson clarified that his hypothesis was based on his professional experience and admitted, “I’ve not run this by anyone else. If you think it’s bulls—, that’s fine.”

Rogan, however, found government dismissals of the issue troubling. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby had previously claimed the drones posed no threat to public safety, calling the sightings “mistaken observations of planes and helicopters.” Similarly, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas suggested the reports were often duplicative, with some confirmed as manned aircraft.
These explanations failed to quell public speculation, with Rogan labeling the government’s stance as “suspect.” Theories about the drones’ origins continue to circulate, with some experts positing they could be deployed by a hostile foreign power to distract authorities. Former President Donald Trump has added to the discourse, alleging government officials know more than they’re revealing and even advocating for the drones to be shot down.
As sightings persist, questions remain unanswered, fueling debates about the purpose and origin of these enigmatic devices.
