JDU backs ‘one nation one poll’ and UCC
Nitish Kumar‘s JDU has embraced ‘one nation, one poll’ and UCC, agendas that the BJP has been campaigning for and intends to execute for years. However, the JDU wants a review of the Agniveer plan, which it believes influenced the polls, India Today reported on Thursday.
The Agnipath Scheme, which began in June 2022, recruits youth for four years, after which 25% would be retained and the remainder will be released – a stipulation that has outraged army aspirants.

The JDU, whose support is vital to the NDA government’s survival, has also stated that while it has no objections to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), it want to engage in discourse with all stakeholders.
In the run-up to the campaign, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the UCC would be implemented during the Modi government’s third term.
Former Army Chief General VK Singh said last month that once the initial group of recruits completes four years of service, some tweaks to the Agnipath system may be implemented. Singh, who was army chief from March 2010 to May 2012, said the first group of agniveers had already joined their battalions.

One nation one poll
One nation one poll is a proposal under consideration by the Government of India to synchronize Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. It wants to hold these elections simultaneously, either on the same day or within a set time range.
Uniform Civil Code
A Uniform Civil law states that all sections of society, regardless of faith, will be treated equally under a national civil law that will apply consistently to everyone. They address topics such as marriage, divorce, maintenance, inheritance, adoption, and succession of property.

In its manifesto, the Congress promised to remove the agniveer scheme in favor of the earlier one, under which troops were recruited for 16 years of service. Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi argues that the army chiefs did not support the new program and that it was imposed on them to reduce pension expenditures.v
