The recent surge in Covid cases in Delhi and other regions of the nation follows a rise noted in Asian countries. Reports indicate that the increase is primarily attributed to the proliferation of Omicron-associated variants of the coronavirus. Health authorities in these countries have confirmed the sub-lineages of the JN.1 variant (LF.7 and NB1.8).

The Union Health Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard on Saturday noted two additional deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total in the Capital to three since January.

Officials recognized one of the victims as a 60-year-old woman who developed acute intestinal obstruction following abdominal surgery, in which Covid-19 was found. The second patient was a 71-year-old man suffering from pneumonia, septic shock, and acute kidney failure.

According to the dashboard, Delhi has reported a cumulative total of 375 active cases as of May 31, with 81 new patients since Friday.

The recent increase in cases in Delhi and various regions of the country follows a rise that was noted in Asian nations. Reports indicate that the increase is largely a result of the dissemination of Omicron-related coronavirus variants. Health authorities in these countries have confirmed the sub-lineages of the JN.1 variant (LF.7 and NB1.8).

Precautions

Wearing a mask is essential when visiting crowded areas or if you experience symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, headache, or fever. As per the 2023 AIIMS/ICMR-COVID-19 National Task Force recommendations, individuals exhibiting mild symptoms should quarantine at home.

At home, you need to keep physical distance, wear a mask, and ensure proper hand hygiene. Mild cases are generally handled with rest, hydration, and medications to alleviate symptoms. Keep yourself hydrated, track your temperature, and avoid antibiotics unless there is obvious evidence of a bacterial infection.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
