Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s much anticipated comeback to international cricket is due in August and he will be the captain for the Ireland series. The Ajit Agarkar-led senior men’s team selection committee appointed the star bowler as skipper as the BCCI unveiled the lineup for the three-match series, which will begin on August 18 in Dublin. The bowler has been out of the team since September 2022.
While T20I captain Hardik Pandya has been rested, the selection committee has picked quite a few players from the Asian Games squad in a bid to make sure they get opportunities at the highest level before representing India at the continental multi-sport event in September-October in China.
Jasprit Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup in Australia last year due to back pain that he has been dealing with. In September 2022, he made his final appearance in a T20I series against Australia. Bumrah had surgery after he had back problems, which BCCI ruled successful. Bumrah began a rigorous recovery programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after his operation.
Notably, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said earlier in July that Bumrah was ready to return to action. Bumrah’s comeback is good news for the ODI team as well as the star pacer is all set to be available for the ODI World Cup. Bumrah is likely to be part of the Asia Cup squad fort the continental tournament, starting August 30.
