Rakesh Kumar, a resident of the pilgrim city of Rishikesh, has performed brilliantly and secured the first position in the prestigious mind games competition SOG Grandmasters Series (North and East Zone). With this, he has become the first player to win the title of IRG Champion – North & East Zone.
Mayor Shambhu Paswan honored Rakesh Kumar in a dignified program organized at the Municipal Corporation premises on Saturday. On this occasion, Hockey Magician Major Dhyan Chand’s grandson Gaurav Dhyan Chand, renowned hockey coach Om Prakash Gupta, former Air Force officer and senior hockey player DP Raturi were specially present. All the guests were honoured by presenting them with shawls and patkas.
Rakesh Kumar is a resident of IDPL area
Rakesh Kumar is originally from IDPL area of Rishikesh. He achieved this feat in a mind game competition held in Gurugram, in which hundreds of participants from 15 states across the country participated. Amidst tough competition, Rakesh displayed excellent mental skills and secured the top spot.
In mind games, the player not only has to read the thoughts of the opponent but also has to use his memory and quick decision making ability. This game is a test of mental balance and alertness, in which Rakesh impressed everyone by performing excellently.

At the felicitation ceremony, Mayor Shambhu Paswan said, “This victory of Rakesh Kumar is not just his, but the victory of the entire Rishikesh city. He has proved that with hard work, dedication and confidence, any position can be achieved. His success will become a source of inspiration for the youth. This achievement has not only brought personal glory to Rakesh Kumar, but has also brought fame to Rishikesh at the national level. The residents of the city hope that Rakesh will continue to bring pride to the state and the country in the same way in the future.
