Star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has reached the milestone of 12,000 runs in T20 cricket, becoming the second Indian to achieve this feat. The Mumbai Indians player reached the milestone with his 12th run against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 41 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Rohit Sharma joins the elite list
Overall, Rohit Sharma became only the eighth batsman to achieve this accomplishment. Over a career spanning 17 years, the 37-year-old stylish batsman has smashed eight tons and 79 fifties.
The other players who are ahead of Rohit are Chris Gayle (14,562), Alex Hales (13,610), Shoaib Malik (13,571), Kieron Pollard (13,537), Virat Kohli (13,208), David Warner (13,019), and Jos Buttler (12,469).
More than 6,700 of Rohit’s T20 runs have been scored in the IPL. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the lucrative league, just behind his fellow countryman Kohli (8,326).
Rohit has played in 265 IPL matches and averages near 30. His tally includes two hundreds and 44 half-centuries.
Rohit Sharma is also the most successful player in IPL in terms of winning titles. Apart from winning title with Deccan Chargers, he has won 5 titles with Mumbai Indians.
Rohit has scored over 6,000 T20 runs as Captain
Rohit is among just five players who have scored over 6,000 runs as captain in T20 cricket. He holds the record alongside Kohli (6,564), MS Dhoni (6,220-plus), Faf du Plessis (6,137), and James Vince (6,131).
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit made history as the first batter to hit 200 sixes in T20I cricket.
