New Delhi, October 22: Delhi Police have arrested social media influencer Amir Shokeen in connection with a viral video allegedly showing a young man from Tripura being subjected to racial taunts, harassment and public humiliation, a case that has sparked outrage across the Northeast.
Shokeen was arrested on Wednesday evening after investigators tracked his movements across the capital, police said. He had allegedly shifted between locations before taking shelter at a relative’s residence in Karol Bagh. Using technical surveillance, police traced him to Shahdara, where he was subsequently apprehended.

The case centres on an Instagram video in which a young man from Tripura is subjected to degrading treatment and racial mockery by a social media influencer . A Tripura resident identified the social media account linked to the video as belonging to Shokeen, prompting police to investigate his alleged role.

The incident has renewed concerns about racial harassment faced by people from the Northeast in the national capital, with demands for accountability and strict action against those responsible.
Police have registered a case under Sections 192, 196, 352 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Shokeen. The provisions cover offences including provocation with intent to cause a riot, promoting enmity between groups, intentional insult and statements conducive to public mischief.
Delhi Police said the investigation into the viral video was continuing. The allegations against Shokeen have yet to be established in court.
