On Tuesday, August 6, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar gave a briefing to an all-party meeting in Parliament regarding the violence and ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh. He discussed India’s response to the crisis in the neighboring country throughout the session, and it is anticipated that he would shortly make an official statement in the House.

The central administration organized an all-party meeting today, which was attended by Rahul Gandhi (Lok Sabha) and Mallikarjun Kharge (Rajya Sabha), the leaders of the opposition in both Houses. According to sources, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stated that his mother is “deeply disappointed” by the rebellion against her leadership and that she will not be making a political comeback.

Sheikh Hasina Resigns and Seeks Safety in India Amid Unrest in Bangladesh

Joy, who was Sheikh Hasina’s official adviser until Monday, claimed that Sheikha had been thinking about resigning since Sunday and had fled the nation for her own safety as a result of pressure from her family. Bangladesh has been transformed by her. The state was viewed as failing when she assumed power. It was a developing nation. Joy defended his mother’s performance in government, saying, “Until today, it was considered one of the rising tigers of Asia.”

Following growing protests, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced her resignation on Monday. She was flown in on a C-130 Hercules military transport plane and arrived at the Hindon Air Base, which is close to New Delhi.

Monday’s disturbance in Bangladesh resulted in at least 135 deaths due to police shootings, beatings by crowds, and burning all around the nation. The news spread that Sheikh Hasina had left Bangladesh, and people rejoiced in public.

The majority-student protests in Bangladesh turned into a rebellion against Hasina and her ruling Awami League party as they called for the elimination of a quota system for government jobs. Clashes in Dhaka on Sunday resulted in hundreds of injuries and at least 95 deaths, including at least 14 police personnel.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
