Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been included as India named the Champions Trophy squad led by Rohit Sharma on Saturday, January 18.
Following extensive discussions on Saturday, Ajit Agarkar announced the team from the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai with Rohit Sharma captaining the team yet again.
Shubman Gill will be Rohit’s deputy as the majority of the players who participated in the ODI World Cup 2023 were kept. In that regard, the fresh additions to the team were Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has received his long-awaited call-up to the Indian ODI lineup.
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are expected to serve as the appointed wicket-keepers in the team for the tournament. India has also added Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel along with Sundar as the spin options in the team.
Kuldeep, who had been hurt prior to the Australia tour, managed to overcome his injury to secure a spot in the squad. A significant omission from the team was Mohammed Siraj, who was substituted by Arshdeep Singh in the roster.

One of the major discussion points leading up to the Champions Trophy squad announcement was Bumrah’s fitness and availability. The leading Indian fast bowler experienced a back spasm during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, leading to significant worries regarding his inclusion in the squad for the 8-team tournament.
Bumrah refuted claims suggesting he was instructed to take bed rest before the Champions Trophy, boosting the optimism of Indian fans. Sports Today reported that the fast bowler is expected to be included in the squad for the Champions Trophy.
