Indian badminton players H.S. Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap, easily defeated their respective opponents on June 21 to movie into the Men’s Singles pre-quarterfinals of the Taipei Open.
Ranked world no. 9, Prannoy, who won the BWF World Tour Super 300 competition last month, defeated local shuttler Lin Yu-hsien in just 26 minutes, barely breaking a sweat.
The victor of Chen Chi Ting vs. Tommy Sugiarto’s first-round Men’s singles match will go up against the third-seeded Prannoy.
Kashyap, a former gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games, defeated Germany’s Samuel Hsiao with ease, 21-15, 21-16. In the pre-quarterfinals, he will compete against Su Li Yang, a local favourite.
However, S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian lost his match against Japanese shuttler Kanta Tsunyama, the sixth seed. In his Men’s singles opening round match, Subramanian showed some resistance in the first game but was comprehensively outplayed in the second. He lost 13-21 5-21.
